Itinerary

Early Morning Pick-Up (5:00 AM)

  • Your day starts with an early pick-up from your hotel or agreed-upon location, and you will be driven to the Kumana National Park entrance.

Entry to Kumana National Park (6:30 AM)

  • After arriving at the park entrance, your guide will assist you in purchasing tickets. The early morning light offers the best opportunities for wildlife sightings, particularly birds and large mammals such as elephants and deer.

Start of Jeep Safari (6:45 AM)

  • You will embark on a jeep safari, exploring the lush wetlands, lagoons, and forest landscapes of the park. Keep your eyes peeled for a vast array of migratory and endemic birds, including the iconic black-necked storks, ibises, and cormorants.
  • Kumana Villu, a large swamp lake within the park, is a particularly popular spot for birdwatching, especially during the migration season from April to July.
  • Along the way, you'll also have the chance to spot wild elephants, leopards, and mugger crocodiles resting along the water's edge.

Visit to Historical Sites (10:30 AM)

  • Your journey through Kumana will also include visits to ancient Buddhist shrines such as Bodhivanasara and Ruhunu Maha Viharaya, nestled within the park. These sites offer a peaceful retreat and a glimpse into the rich history and spirituality of the region.

Lunch Break (12:00 PM)

After a rewarding morning of wildlife sightings, you will stop for a packed lunch, provided by Views Lanka, near the park’s scenic lagoons or under the shade of the lush trees.

Second Half of Jeep Safari (1:00 PM)

  • After lunch, continue your exploration through the deeper parts of the park. The park’s diverse landscapes of mangroves, grasslands, and rivers will allow you to spot a variety of other species, including wild boar, sloth bears, and possibly more leopards.
  • The afternoon is also a great time to observe more bird species as they gather near the water sources.

End of Safari and Drop-Off (5:00 PM)

Your exciting day at Kumana National Park will conclude with a drop-off back at your hotel or the agreed drop-off location, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Sri Lanka’s rich biodiversity.
